People are choosing more and more frequently to abandon urban lifestyles in favor of more rural and suburban living where they can be in closer contact with nature. At the same time markets for organic foods are rapidly changing a sector of our agricultural practices, often increasing the potential contact between production animals and wildlife.
The complexities of these changes and the effects they have on health of people, their pets, their production animals and wildlife populations are the challenge that many EMC research programs explore. Whether studying the impact of migration of forest elephants in Cameroon on village planning or looking for better ways to manage the health implications of suburban development in North Carolina, EMC faculty are involved.
